About Us
Our Guiding Principle
“You can only be safe and secure in a society that practices tolerance, cherishes harmony and can celebrate difference.”
– Rabbi Hugo Gryn
Foundations
The Centre, a charity, was founded upon the principles of interfaith understanding and dialogue supported by the values of mutual respect and compassion. Our main aim is to promote education, particularly in schools, about different beliefs, faiths and cultures and to explore their common values, hopes and visions for the future well-being of the individual and community.
September 2001
In September 2001, people from different faith communities across the city, together with local Councillors, Council officials and School representatives, came together to open the Plymouth Centre for Faith and Cultural Diversity on the Salisbury Road school site. A small Religious Education project had grown into a very successful Interfaith group, which formed in 1998. The vision developed and with vital support from the local authority, a Centre, to focus the work created a new resource base, especially for schools across the city and the surrounding area.
